Sofia Marcos has a degree in Biology from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), where she began her research experience in the Animal Physiology Group, focused on the energetic physiology of sea water bivalves. She also holds a M.Sc. in Clinical Analysis Laboratory by the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), during which she did an internship in the Josep Carreras Leukemia Research Institute and was working in the latest DNA sequecing methodologies and technologies, such as single-cell sequencing.

She is currently working as a PhD student on the HoloFood project under the supervision of Dr. Antone Estonba and Dr. Antton Alberdi. The HoloFood is a H2020 European project which aims to develop and implement an holo-omic solution for a sustainable food production using chicken and salmon as study models. Her PhD project falls into understanding which molecular, metabolic and physiological processes are triggered in broilers and their intestinal microbiome when administering feed additives such as probiotics and prebiotics.
